First, we are working on a complete overhaul of Podcast Suite, and we hope to release a first alpha version Podcast Suite 2.0 in the coming weeks. Podcast Suite 2.0 will be a bit of a departure from the current version of Podcast Suite, but we are keeping backwards compatibility in mind. Here are some of the features we are working on:
- Support for Joomla 1.5 and 1.7.
- Easier creation of multiple feeds.
- Decoupling of Podcast Suite from com_content. Feeds can be created stand-alone without items being embedded into articles.
- Refactored database structure to allow for easier creation of multiple feeds.
- Improved media management.
- Amazon S3 integration.
- External FTP server integration.
- Plugin architecture for integration with cloud hosting and external FTP servers for media hosting.
- Editor XTD button for easier embedding of media in articles.
- Template overrides for podcast content plugin.
- Frontend display of podcast feeds.
- Support for moving feed URLs in iTunes.
- Backwards compatiblity. All of your feed data will be automatically ported to the new database structure, so you will not lose your existing feeds.
We're really excited about the changes coming to Podcast Suite, as we think it will make setting up and managing your podcasts even easier than it already is.
We are also happy to announce that Joe LeBlanc has joined the Cory Webb Media team! Joe was the original creator of Podcast Suite, and now he's back and helping us build version 2.0! This is great news for users of Podcast Suite, as Joe's involvement will help accelerate production so we can get Podcast Suite 2.0 launched and available for Joomla 1.7.
